LNG Liquified Natural Gas



Main Properties

Depending on boiling point, LNG contains more than 75 % methane.

For reference purposes, properties of pure methane are given below.

Density of methane varies between 430 kg/m3 and 470 kg/m3. Expansion ratio from liquid to gas is 600. Liquefaction process provides high purity gas.LNG is odourless, colourless and non-toxic.Mixtures with air at concentration between 5 % and 15 % are flammable.In contrary, liquid natural gas is not flammable. Only gas phase is flammable.At ambient temperatures LNG rapidly evaporates and in contact with ignition sources, burns and generated heat increases evaporation rate and burning rate.

Applications

TransportationThe locations where there is no pipe line, LNG can be transported by ships (LNG ocean tankers), ISO Containers, road tankers. All of these transportation equipment are suitable for cryogenic service.

EnergyLNG is used in industry such as, in boilers, furnaces and heating purposes at houses.

FuelLNG is used at buses, trucks, ships and cars as a fuel. The form used in these vehicles are CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) and LCNG (Liquid Compressed Natural Gas). The plants to produce these products can be established at considerable low costs at any places needed.
